A Poem By Cheryl Srnka
10 years later............. Watching the live broadcast of the horror of a decade ago as names of the fallen go on and on and on, I remember what I was doing on that September morn. Bleary eyed before my first cup of coffee because I overslept T.V. turned on, volume turned down speaking to a friend on the phone. My back,to the horror going on. My friend said"Oh my God, a plane just went through a tower at the world trade center!" I turn around and I thought; how amazing what Hollywood could do with their effects, till I watched the second plane fly through the other tower. No need for coffee now as I turn up the volume, to hear if it's fiction or real. I told my friend I'd call her soon, still staring; surreal. After the shock, I grew angry as I felt the world shift from the loss. We took for granted, let our guard down, pompous assumption that we thought; that our enemies could enter unnoticed or could ever set up, much less follow through, with this kind of plot. Ten years later on the anniversary that no one has the right to forget, so many lost at a useless cost after so much aid had been given; from a nation who's help was always there when they needed us most, backfired when our generosity bit us in the ass. What we should do is call in our markers, start sending out the bills to those we've aided to help pay, for OUR devastating loss. Let's start taking care of our own (Americans) and wait until we, the people regain our strength, before we help anyone again. Let's bring home all our troupes, let the other countries do as they wish. They're killing each other without our help, and they can go to hell. But the good people there who wish to have what we own, will gather their strength with the freedom we left so they can grow strong and right the wrongs of what their country has done. But we will never forget the infamous date as the world felt each and every loss, of flight 93, the pentagon, and the twin towers of New York on September 11, 2001. A Letter From Scott
Hello poets and friends,
The artists from the North Port Art Center have begun creating art from selected poetry that was read at April's Open Mic at the North Port Library, Poetry at the Pond.
This Saturday, July 2, 4-6pm, the Art Center will host a reception for Fur, Fins, and Feathers & the invitational, Can You Paint A Poem? Eight artist have selected the following poets and have hung their completed painted poetry: Arlene Kincaid, Dobie Pasco, Cheryl Srnka, Patricia Brown, Edwin E. Ellis, James Geimer, Joanne Phillips, and Janis Russell. Please, come and read your poem and join us for all of the poetry.
If you are unable to attend, a poet from the North Port poetry Workshop will read your work for you.
If your name did not appear here that does not mean you have not been selected, maybe the artist isn't ready yet, good news!!
A second reception will be held at the North Port Library, November 19, 2011, 1-4pm, to hang more art inspired by your poetry. I'll update those selected poets in November.
You can check for updates and photos of this event in July at the webspot. nppoetryc.blogspot.com, the spot for North Port poetry news.
Thanks,

Book Committee Update
Book Committee Update: Poetry collection will be open from May 24 - June 28, with deadline for submission at the June monthly meeting, 6/28/11.
I suggest 10 - 15 poems, numbered in the order of most important to you for publication. Since the book has not been designed and will be a departure from past books, the number of printed poems for each poet is hard to calculate, so we will ask that you send more than we will actually use, also unknown are the actual number of poets participating in the book. At this point I'd like to close the project to only include our members at this time, as I believe we have over 12 poets that have expressed their interest in joing the project.
The Book Committee is JoEllen Ganter, Pat Deeder, and Scott Zirkelback, our emails are on the one of the pages at the right.
Committee will format and design book pages at the May 24th meeting. The committee will accept poetry by formatted email, for those without computers
mail or hand in poems to a committee member by the deadline date. For our northern poets, I will send out email information, as soon as we have more to report on the process. I have taken Paul Holmes publishing class which I found to be very informative and will help us create a very up-to-date ninth addition to the Weaver of Words series. Paul has offered to guide us through any difficulties we may encounter getting our book in print. Goal: Complete Book and introduce it at the November 19th Open Mic Event.
